NEGRO IS ELECTED EPISCOPAL BISHOP
BOSTON, Sept. 22—The Venerable John M. Burgess, Archdeacon of Boston, was elected today a suffragan bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. Church officials said he would be the first Negro to serve as a Bishop of white Episcopalian congregations in the United States.
